Ripped off

This is a personal note to the creature that downloaded/ripped my entire site today:

You’d better not be using my original material for your own personal gain. I detest dishonesty and disrespect, and you displayed those by ripping my site. I may never find out who you are but I know what country you’re from as well as your IP address. 122.252.227.17

What goes around comes around. Remember that.

    • Someone downloaded a LOT of files from my site – it helps when you control your own hosting and can keep track of these things. Have had this happen before where someone copied one of my old sites, then put the same pages on their own site and passed it off as their own. Be darned if this is happening again! >:(

  1. hmm… that’s terrible and rather frustrating isn’t it.. well the copycat must be very impressed with your site imitation is the sincerest form of flattery..

how do you keep track of copy cats? Did they take your posts word by word including pictures? Was it a prank?

    • If the copycat is impressed, the copycat should drop a note to say so. It’s the polite thing to do. And if the copycat wants to replicate MY info, the copycat should ask for permission. It’s the right thing to do. In this case, I don’t know what the info is being used for; I just know it’s been copied out WITHOUT PERMISSION. Just ask nicely, people, I’m not unreasonable. Usually.

  2. Oh dear…how does this happened? BTW how do we keep track of copy cats and how can we prevent this from happening? You mentioned controlling ur own hosting and able to keep track…can you advise me? Perhaps I should do the same. It feels bad to know people are downloading ur material.

    • I haven’t found a foolproof way to stop the copying yet, obviously. Who would think anyone would want to steal info from a mere hobbyist’s site? :(
You don’t necessarily have to host your own blog to keep track – your bloghost ought to have some feature on the back end to show you who has visited your site and you can track a bit from there. Hosting yourself allows you to see the pages and files accessed though, but it can be a headache if you’re not used to managing a site yourself. Let me know if you ever see pictures or my posts out there on the web… :(

    • I appreciate that, Sky. Like Mama Cina said, I should be flattered, but theft is theft, even if this person did this for innocent reasons. After all, there are these things called Bookmarks. :\

  3. ok, we be the watch dogs and you continue what u enjoy doing most (and allow us to enjoy reading ur blogs :- ) )
